Instructors have occasionally used tournaments as a means of inspiring and involving their students. It may be necessary to carefully arrange competitions to make sure they adhere to any applicable Thkee policies. The following lists some of the most common problems that arise during giveaways and competitions.
Entering contests
According to Thkee's Terms, the collection of Personal Identifiable Information (PII) is prohibited. We reserve the right, in contests, to let winners trade email addresses in order to distribute prizes to a restricted number of winners.
Reviews shouldn't be necessary in order to participate because they can't be paid for. Instructors are also not allowed to ask students to follow them on social media or take part in any other kind of self-promotion.
Promoting the competition
To guarantee that the emphasis stays on pertinent instructional content that will support students' engagement with the subject matter, the Educational Announcements Guidelines prohibit advertising items. Make sure the announcement and/or the competition have an educational component if you plan to use them to promote it. For instance, a raffle would not be regarded as instructive.
It would be deemed unsolicited spam to send out direct messages in large quantities to advertise a competition.
The competition may be mentioned in the course material if it is perpetual.
Prizes
Instructors are not allowed to mention or advertise alternative courses. Giving away a free coupon for a course of the winner's choosing is acceptable, though.Make sure that neither the challenge nor the award itself can be seen as a shady means of endorsing other goods or services, such as the instructor's books. Good awards that have previously been given out:
- Extra tutoring
- Amazon gift cards
- Books by unrelated third parties
- Free coupon for any other course offered by the instructor
- Shout-out in a future social media post
- Exam vouchers
Off-platform competitions
Instructors may choose to publish competitions that are in violation of Thkee standards or the aforementioned principles on their own private email lists or social media. While the Bonus Lecture is not the best choice for a time-bound task, it is still an alternative.
